Because keratin is a naturally existing protein in hair, products can be named "keratin" but have no actual keratin in the ingredient list. Instead, the treatments use intense silicone and conditioning to make hair smooth. If the product does not provide detailed instruction on how to wash, dry and straighten your hair, it is a high possibility that it is a standard conditioning treatment. And at-home versions of keratin treatments tend to wash out in a few weeks rather than months for salon treatments.
Another benefit of keratin treatment is that it can be used with hair colouring. The additional keratin treatment will bring more shine to your hair colour, instead of decolouring.
