What is a Keratin Treatment, and what does the process look like?
Keratin is a protein that keeps our hair smooth and frizz-less. Over time, we start to lose keratin protein in our hair which will become tangled and frizzy. Keratin treatment can put the precious protein back into the hair. This smoothing treatment seals the hair cuticle with a coating of protein that eliminates frizz, restore vitality, smoothness, and shine.
The treatment usually takes 1 to 3 hours, depending on hair type, length, and thickness. Before the treatment, the hair must be thoroughly shampooed to remove any hair product's oils and residue. The wash will also open up the cuticle, getting it ready for the treatment. Once the hair is clean, Keratin product is applied from the root to the ends throughout combing to ensure every hair is nurtured. The hair will be roughly dried to about 75% and start to blow dry with a round brush. Once the hair is dehydrated, we use the Healing Stone™ iron by GlamPalm® Magic Series™ to run through the whole hair again. The treatment ends with a cool water rinse.
Who is ideal to use keratin?
If you have frizzy and unmanageable hair, looking more to reduce the time it takes to style your hair, keratin treatment will eliminate frizz and soften hair for easier styling. If you’re someone who doesn't like their curl or blows their hair out smooth daily, we would definitely recommend keratin.
How long does a keratin treatment last?
A keratin treatment should last you anywhere from 3-6 months. Depending on your natural hair texture and how often you’re shampooing, the hair slowly returns to its previous texture. This does mean that your whole hair is done again and not just the roots when it is time to service. However, if you decide not to maintain the keratin, there is no demarcation line on the hair where it starts and stops or where it is growing.
How to care for your hair about keratin treatment?
Typically, we recommend a waiting period of two days or 48 hours after keratin treatment before shampooing or getting hair wet. This allows for better lasting results. Always remember to use sulphates-free shampoo.
Any additional chemical service will speed up the fade of the result from the treatment as well.
